My name is Julie, and I am was a chocoholic.
One month ago today I had my last bite of chocolate for 30 days. Yes, people, THIRTY days chocolate free. Not one nibble. Not one sip. I almost accidentally sipped a chocolate milk shake because moms are always suppose to make sure it isn't too thick to get up the straw, right? It's just second nature. Luckily I was stopped just in time. Whew!
Why did I do this? Because for years I don't think I've ever gone a day without chocolate. I felt that I needed it. But mostly I wanted to challenge myself. To prove that I can do hard things. To say "if I, a very obsessed self-proclaimed chocoholic can go one month without chocolate, then you can do something that's hard for you too." To show that just because it's around you, you don't have to be a part of it. To show that I am strong.
During the past month I kept a list of chocolate items that have been in my house that I have resisted. It includes:
Reese's Puffs
Chocolate Chex
Coco Puffs
Hot Fudge
Rocky Road Ice Cream
Hershey's Chocolate Syrup
Chocolate Milk
Hot Chocolate
Chocolate Milk Shakes
Chocolate Chips
Chocolate Chip Cookies - homemade
Chocolate Chip Cookies - Chips Ahoy
Peanut M&Ms
Ding Dongs
Chocolate Donuts
Hostess Cupcakes
Hershey's Kisses
Brownies
Cookie Dough Ice Cream
Oreos
Chocolate Chip Granola Bars
Chocolate Dipped Granola Bars
Chocolate Teddy Grahams
Snickers
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
Chocolate Mint Cookies
Nutella
Chocolate Pop Tarts
Tootsie Pops
That's a LOT of chocolate in one house. Crazy, isn't it! I can't wait for a big mug of hot chocolate tomorrow morning and a nice little bowl of Chocolate Chex for a snack. Yum!

You . . . are . . . amazing. I congratulate you. I honor you. I am awed by you. You should be very proud. Honestly.
I am very, very impressed. And a little sad that you did it because now I know that I really should try something, too. Thanks for being a good example! And enjoy your chocolate-filled birthday tomorrow!!
Well done! I am thrilled for you. Have a fantastically chocolate birthday tomorrow!
Wow! I have a plaque in my house from my mom that says, "I'd give up chocolate, but I am no quitter." Don't think I could ever come close to that. Have a happy birthday!
That! list! is! long! And there are some items on it that wouldn't tempt me in the slightest (or that I even knew existed). The rest: kryptonite. Total kryptonite.
I'm very impressed! By your willpower AND your ulterior motives (because we know children are watching...). Nice work, Mommy!
You really are a great example of how to exercise willpower! Good for you, and Happy Birthday!
