Guilt

I think all mothers suffer from mom-guilt of some form. It's hard to find the right balance of organization, discipline, structure, compassion, sympathy, and being the super-awesome-fun-mom that your kids want to be around. I won't give you my laundry list of things I regularly feel guilty about, but a blog post I just read made my heart a little lighter this morning.

I've never been good at making a nice, hot breakfast on a regular basis. I am a huge cold cereal fan. I just counted, and we currently have twelve open boxes of cereal in our pantry and another six in storage waiting their turn. Cereal is the main component of our emergency 72-hour-kits. I could eat it for breakfast (and even lunch) every day and be happy. This is where the guilt starts to set in. I know that not everyone in my family loves these rectangular boxes of deliciousness as much as I do, so I feel often feel guilty for not cooking breakfast more often. But thanks to some ingenious guilt-reducing marketing from Kellogg's I will no longer feel guilt if my family has to eat cold cereal several times a week. According to this website eating cold cereal will help my family:

  • Start the day with energy.
  • Consume valuable nutrients they might otherwise miss.
  • Enjoy a tasty meal made from simple grains.
What more could a mother want? Ahhhh. Grab some bowls and spoons. I feel the guilt slipping away already.

In case you think I always give my table the cold shoulder in the mornings... Check out a few of my favorite breakfast recipe here. And Pioneer Woman has a great tutorial on making the best cinnamon toast ever. Enjoy!

Kellogg's marketers are genius - they have figured out a way to resonate with every single mom on the planet!!!

I love cerael! I am with you--I could eat it everyday with cold milk (that's the key for me). :) I fix it for dinner when Andy's out of town, so don't feel bad. You're a great mom.

Kyle requested cereal for his birthday dinner so according to him you would be the best Mom ever! I've eaten breakfast at your house and I've never seen anyone go hungry...don't feel guilty!
