I Am A Mother

There is something a little extra sweet about Amanda's birthday every year. It marks the anniversary of the day I became a mother. The day I began my eternal career. Has it really been fourteen years since this baby girl joined our family?

I remember how anxiously I looked forward to October 6th - the elusive due date that had been marked in my Franklin Planner for 9 months. Thinking that I was in labor I went to the hospital after dinner on the 5th, only to be sent home.  I slept soundly and woke up wondering if I should go ahead and get ready for work. Before I was able to step out of bed and make any decisions, my water broke.  I was suddenly filled with both excitement and nervousness. We hurried and got ready, made a few phone calls to the expectant first-time grandparents and went back to the hospital.  After the real contractions hit I was quite embarrassed that I had gone to the hospital the night before. I wasn't set on getting an epidural, but it didn't take long for me to change my mind. I've been a big fan ever since. The labor was quick and Amanda was born at noon, right in the middle of her due date. She has always been a girl who is able to get things done right on time.

I love having Amanda as my first-born.  It has been amazing to watch her grow up into such a beautiful, talented, amazing young woman.  She is such a wonderful example. I can't imagine my life without her.

Happy Birthday Amanda!

Julie, How lucky Amanda is to have you as a mother with such love and devotion. I remember seeing you pregnant and thought how cute you looked and how ready to be a mom you were.
