One Night at Book Club

I like the beautiful story of Ester in the Old Testament and was excited to read Hadassah: One Night With the King, by Tommy Tenney.  Although I usually enjoy historical fiction I was quite disappointed by this story.

The whole precedent of the story is that Ester wrote a "how-to" manual of sorts to help other would-be-queen-hopefuls have a chance at being the one to "wow" the king.  She seems to have found the magic formula and wants to pass on her expertise.  What follows is 300 pages of poorly written dialog and a lot more fiction than fact.  I found most of the story hard to read and quite unbelievable.  The story definitely follows the facts from the Bible, but Tenney stretches it out a bit too much.  Maybe if he was a better writer I wouldn't have felt like it dragged on.  I would say don't waste your time with this novel.  I should have finished reading Twilight instead (which I'm enjoying).

On a good note, book club last night was a lot of fun.  The "after-the-discussion" discussions and dessert were definitely a highlight.  Thanks, ladies.
