Just An Afternoon With My Girls

Amanda, Ashley & I enjoyed a nice girls afternoon out Saturday and headed over to Centennial High School in Frisco to see Stephenie Meyer and have her sign a few books.  What a fun experience to share with my girls, and almost 1,000 other overly-enthusiastic fans.

Stephenie spoke to the crowd of 584 in the auditorium (the other lucky 400 had to wait in the cafeteria) and answered several pre-submitted questions.  Amanda was thrilled that Stephenie picked her question which had to do with advice for someone who wants to publish books.  We then waited over an hour (in our seats, thankfully!) for our turn to meet the author and get a few signatures in our books.  She signed and personalized our three copies of The Host and then signed our copies of Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse.  Amanda claims that it might have been the "best 10 seconds of her life!"  Ashley was also very excited, but maybe not so star-struck as her sister.  I think it's great that this is the first book series that Ashley has really gotten into and she is actually turning into quite a reader.  Thank you, Stephenie.  It was a good day.

Now, here's my confession...
I have never read any of Stephenie Meyer's books.  I did get about 150 pages into Twilight while we were waiting in the auditorium and I'm enjoying it thus far. It's not that I haven't wanted to read them... just haven't taken the time.  Darn book club books : ).   I will get there, don't worry.

So, to answer the frequently asked question these days, "How far have you gotten in The Host?"  The answer is, "I sold my copy to Amanda's friend.  I'll read one of the girls' copies later."

When you're finished with the series, I'll be interested in your thoughts on the morality aspects, particularly as they relate to and effect your daughters. I've read all the books and thought, for teeny-bopper vampire romance novels, they were pretty clean, but have been privvy to numerous conversations among mothers who thought otherwise (specifically re: Eclipse). It's hard for me to judge, not yet having a teenage daughter. So be sure to let me know what you think from that perspective.

What a fun afternoon! It's so fitting of their personalities for Amanda to be so star-struck and Ashley just to enjoy it- I love it. Cute girlies!

I'm also interested to hear what you think of the series being a mom of teenage (and almost) girls. I only read Twilight and it's definitely clean, but I thought the love was too deep to be practical for a 17 year old. But not very many other people seem to mind that. And maybe for your girls 17 seems old enough for that. I don't know.

Anyway, such a fun outing!

I know, shocker that I haven't read these yet. Erik is almost done with Eclipse so we've had several discussions on some of the content in the books. Stay tuned for my thoughts when I finish Twilight : ).

Erik's reading them??! Now that's funny to me. Especially if he's ahead of you. Very interesting! Maybe I need to get over the deep teenage love and jump back into the series and see if I can love it as much as everyone else. Now I'm REALLY curious to see what Erik thinks of it!

Julie,
I started "twilight" at the Stephenie Meyer book signing last summer! How funny! I read on through the night and had the next two finished by the weekend.:) I am definitely a fan, but still "Twilight" best. I received "the host" for my birthday and am looking forward to reading it!
