A Little More About Me - Week 3

I'm sure you're so excited to find out about my - FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TOYS

There are two very memorable toys that come to my mind when I think of my childhood.  At the time I thought I was very deprived because I owned neither a big wheel or a sit-n-spin, but I always had plenty to play with and a big imagination that kept me busy for hours.

I think the one thing I loved the most was my Holly Hobbie Easy Bake Oven.  For as long as I can remember I loved cooking and had this out on the counter every time my mom was in the kitchen baking.  She's let me have my own bit of dough or batter that I'd put in the little pans and slide into the magic blue oven.  Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorite TV shows and I loved to pretend like I lived in the little wooden house when I used my old fashioned oven.

The only "Barbies" I ever owned were the Donny & Marie Osmond dolls.  I don't remember when I got these, but I loved them.  My younger brother and I watched the Donny and Marie show each week and we'd often act out their songs.  The Marie doll had nice long, wavy hair, but when she cut her hair short in real life I decided to do the same with my doll.  It really looked bad.  I wonder if that's why I've never wanted to try and cut any of my kids' hair.

We grew up in the same era. I loved my Donny doll, although I didn't have a Marie one. I had to pretend with a Barbie. I had the Easy Bake Oven, but this Holly Hobbie one looks fun. What a great time reminiscing about childhood toys. I love your series. Fun and great family history stuff too. It was fun to see you and Eric tonight. Hope you enjoyed your evening.

By the time I got these dolls handed down they were in bad shape but Donny still had his purple socks...that was my favorite part. (and yes...Marie's hair was REALLY bad)

Julie, we have SO much in common! I had that Holly Hobbie easy bake too and I LOVED, LOVED Little House! I didn't get into the Donny and Marie thing though...I used to pretend that I was in a little wooden house on the prarie by cooking my own soup on the stove, but stiring it with a wooden spoon! I felt very old fashioned....

Nice. Why don't you rub it in. I didn't have either of these toys, and you know how I feel about that! At least I had the sit and spin.

I didn't have the dolls or the easy bake oven either. Being the oldest of 7 can really put a damper on getting any cool toys. I also didn't have the sit in spin. Come to think of it, I'm not quite sure what I had to play with...I guess just younger siblings ;-)

Hi Julie,

I was so excited when I saw you left a comment on my blog. What a small world, I just can't believe it!! I am so glad we could reconnect. Whenever I think of our roommate year, the memories of you are what make me laugh. I love your blogs. I went down to the slideshow entry and can hardly believe how grown up your kids are. How old is your littlest one? I am going to try and get a hold of your phone number so we can chat. Have a great week and your stroll down memory lane is making me take my own ones as well.
