A Girl Named Zippy, Haven Kimel. Laugh-0ut-loud hilarious at times. Anyone read the next book, She Got up Off the Couch?
The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Kim Edwards. Slightly disturbing, but fascinating.
The Book Thief, Markus Zusak. A 'must read'.
The Samurai's Garden, Gail Tsukiyama.
The Bean Trees, Barbara Kingsolver.
Sarah's Quilt, Nancy Turner. Follows These is My Words (which I liked better).
Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life, Queen Noor. Everyone needs to read at least one good non-fiction every year. This is a good one - She's an amazing woman.
Animal Farm, George Orwell. Shame on you if you never read this. If you read it in high school, read it again.
We're picking our 2008 books at book club tonight! I'm excited to find out what I get to read this year.

I LOVED Zippy and "She Got Up Off the Couch" Both were laugh-out-loud-ers for me. She's a FABULOUS writer! We're supposed to be reading Austinland for bookclub this month- haven't started it yet- or gotten it for that matter. I think there's a copy at my library... Love the list! I'll have to post mine on my blog, too! Happy Reading!
Julie, thanks for the good list. I LOVED "She Got Up Off the Couch" along with Zippy. It's interesting because she manages to keep it light even though dealing with definitely more serious issues. Won't spoil it, but I do recommend it.
Thanks for the other recommendations. I can't believe I've never read Animal Farm. Guess I'm off to the library to save me from shame! :)
Oh, I also loved These Is My Words by Nancy Turner, but got bored with Sarah's Quilt and never finished it.
