Book Club Pick

'Tis the season to pick our lineup for next year's book club. What are the best books you've read this past year? Anything I should put on my must read list? Anything I should avoid?

Some books I've read this year that would be great for book club discussions might be: Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster and How of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky (one of the best non-fiction I've read in years!)

I've loved reading young adult fiction this year. You can find award-winning and clean books that are quick read. Some favs are: Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan, A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park, The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World by E.L. Konigsburg, Star Girl by Jerry Spinell, & The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt

Two other favs from 2010 were: Stormy Weather by Paulette Jiles and Moloka'i by Alan Brennert.

Happy reading! I am interested in other book suggestions you get.

Wish I could think of some that probably haven't read. I am sure you read the hunger games series. I too read the Mysterious edge of the heroic world and enjoyed it. I also read the mysterious benedict society. We have all enjoyed that series. I look forward to hearing other recommendations, too!

"Two Old Women" By Velma Wallis is a great book club book. It is a shorter read and it brought up a lot of great disscussion in my neighborhood book club.

I read The Book Thief this year and recommend it with a language warning (a lot of swearing in German, with English equivalents identified). Even so, I think it's the best I've read this year.
