I enjoyed reading a fun "Getting To Know Me" post on my Sister-in-law Katie's blog last month, but just couldn't think of anything very clever or interesting to blog about myself. At bedtime my boys often want me to tell stories about when I was a kid and it's fun to remember some silly random things about when I was growing up. I'll post a new one each Friday this month. Enjoy...

The Jump Rope Team
We moved in the middle of fourth grade. I was shy and worried about making friends and being able to fit in at the new school. One of the best things about the new school was a fourth and fifth grade jump rope team. It sounded like a lot of fun and I thought of myself as quite a good jumper. The PE teacher asked me if I wanted to be a part of the team and I was so excited. We worked on synchronized jumping where we each had our own rope and did a choreographed routine to music. I think one of the favorites was performed to Celebration by Kool & The Gang. Somehow being a part of this really helped me enjoy my new school and gave me something to feel good about.

Julie, you are awesome! Seriously, that's so cool! Have you jump roped lately? About a year ago I thought that would be a good workout I could do right in the yard while the kids played and went and bought me a rope. Well, turns out I'm not the jumper I used to be (not that I was ever on a team or anything. . .)! Seriously, I think 7 consecutive jumps was the best I got in the two weeks before I gave up. How humiliating!
What a cute story, and this is a great way for us to get to know you more! I'll be looking forward to your Friday posts...
You know that you will definitely have to share that talent at the next ward variety hour! You have been warned!
Hmm... I guess I didn't get that gene either...
What a clever blog idea. And that is a talent you can probably apply to so many situations today, right? I loved how you reminisced about that experience. My kids love stories from my youth - especially stories about how I goofed up or did something silly or got in trouble.
