Viking Beef

Kammy asked about Viking Beef: It's a favorite family recipe from Denmark. I must admit that when I first saw this recipe it seemed quite strange.  I'm sure My Food Diary won't like it one bit, but it sure is yummy!

Viking Beef
Cut  1 1/2 lbs. of round steak into thin strips and brown in butter
Add one medium onion, chopped
Add:
1 quart half & half
1 T. paprika
3/4 T. curry powder
1 package bearnaise sauce mix
1 C. ketchup
2 cloves garlic, minced
Cook until sauce is hot. Add 1 red pepper, cut into thin strips. Cook until peppers are tender. Serve over hot crispy french fries

Viking Beef is one of our faves. It is similar to a yummy fry sauce with beef poured over french fries. Doesn't get better than that! :) Thanks for your menus, Julie. Gives me some great ideas.

yum- I'm salivating. I would make this tonight, but I don't have half & half or bernaise, so I guess I'll just need to run to the store tomorrow! But, I have to say that I used to be totally scared of this when I was younger and mom would make it. Once I tried it, I was hooked. I LOVE it!

this sounds so good! not to be a complete dork, but where would I find bernaise?

Any grocery store should have it (I can always find it at Tom Thumb - the Knorr brand). You can find it in the aisle with all of the other packaged sauce mixes. Or just come grab some from my pantry.

YUM-O! I love this. Dumb Lew and his Lactose Intollerance, we don't get to have this. Maybe the next time he's out of town we'll to this instead of Grilled Cheese! :) Still lovin' your blog, Julie!

First of all, can just say I'm so excited you added me to your "friends" list on the side of your blog! I'm so glad you have this blog 'cause I'm getting some great new recipes! Thanks for sharing and inspiring the rest of us!

I think I just use milk sometimes instead of half and half -- never seem to have that on hand -- and it turns out alright. Anyone?

I'm sure milk would work - and be better for you. I would probably just use less milk since so that the sauce wouldn't be too thin.

Thank you so much for this recipe. I can tell just from reading it that it is going to be one of Graham's favorites! I'm going to have to lose a few more pounds before I can splurge like this! Motivation. YUM!!

Well, I finally picked up all the ingredients for this recipe. I plan on making it tomorrow. I'll let you know what the family thinks!

We just finished having this for dinner. We didn't have the bell pepper, but my family doesn't care for them so it was probably best for us without. It was a big hit! Thanks for the recipe. We'll be having this again!
